Best Blu-ray Movies To Own

What are the optimal settings for BD/DVD playback on a PlayStation 3 with a Toshiba Regza?
Yes! Fully loaded question, I know! But I own the 40″ Toshiba Regza TheaterWide 40RF350U television and have my Playstation 3 hooked up via HDMI. Now my Blu-Ray movies look gorgeous, but the HDMI and settings are all new to me. However, standard DVD viewing could be better. Maybe Blu-Ray has spoiled me, I don’t know. Is the difference between 480p and 1080p really that significant?
So I was hoping someone knew what the best picture preference for the television settings were, and what options I should have on my PS3 for DVD viewing/upscaling/all those new features that I don’t know what they do.
As far as your television goes honestly there’s nothing you can really do to make it “look” better. I mean yes you can mess around with the brightness, and contrast and other things of that nature but what really makes or breaks the picture clarity and quality is the connection and since you have an HDMI connection and obviously you aren’t having any minor issues with it as far as veiwing goes then I wouldn’t try altering anything at all. Remember Blu-ray players are designed to give you the full optimized look of the Blu-ray movie. Yes it is a DVD upconverter but it does better on some than it does on others. Now as far as your PS3 goes, go into BD/DVD Settings, set the following areas to these settings if they aren’t set already: Cinema Coversion – Automatic; DVD Wide Display – Letterbox; DVD Upscaler – Double Scale; Video Output Format – Automatic; and 1080p24HZ Output – Automatic. If all these were set like this already, well unfortunately this is as good as it gets for your old DVDs but at least you’re enjoying your Blu-ray movies.
